Sun Yat-sen University's First "Lingnan Cup" China Economic Development Case Analysis Competition Final Held Successfully
On the afternoon of March 18, the final and awarding ceremony of Sun Yat-sen University's first "Lingnan Cup" China Economic Development Case Analysis Competition was held in Huai Shi Hall, South Campus.
The competition was sponsored by the Publicity Department of the Party Committee of Sun Yat-sen University, the Student Affairs Department of the Party Committee of Sun Yat-sen University, and Lingnan College of Sun Yat-sen University, and all students could sign up. The competition revolved around the original ideas, transformative practices, breakthroughs and landmark achievements in the field of economic construction since the founding of New China. From the perspective of young students, it aimed to demonstrate the excellent cases of "telling China's story in economics well" by making comparison between the past and present and that between generations.
Since the competition was launched in September 2022, it has attracted 110 teams and more than 600 students. In the end, 8 teams entered the final, and 28 outstanding cases were included in the case library.

At the final, Professor Lin Jianhao delivered a speech on behalf of the college. Entrusted by Dean Li Shanmin, he expressed heartfelt gratitude and warm welcome to the judges and guests present. He spoke highly of the students at Sun Yat-sen University for their active participation in this competition, and pointed out that young people in the new era should take the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation as their own responsibility, actively take root in China, and further explore their professional fields. He encouraged the students to overcome difficulties, forge ahead, tell the story of China's economic development well, and contribute to China's economic development.

The 8 teams that entered the final focused on the "new development concept" and China's economic development in the past ten years for case presentations and on-site defenses. With various forms such as slideshows and videos, the participating teams staged wonderful academic competitions for the audience. The entries revolved around many fields such as manufacturing development, urban governance, rural revitalization, people's livelihood and security, and common prosperity. The valuable experience of China in economic development in the past 10 years was drawn on to fully demonstrate the theory, logic, practical path and great vitality of the socialist economy with Chinese characteristics.

In the defenses after presentation, the judges and guests proposed questions to each team about the topic, methods, and ideas of the research. The judges fully acknowledged the grand vision and care for the reality reflected in the topics. They also suggested that future research should focus more on core issues, highlight research priorities, clarify logical structures, and further figure out common characteristics.

In the summary and comment section, Professor Chen Ping recognized the consistency between the contestants' topics and China's development reality and the positive role of the case study in helping students figure out the national conditions and strengthening the connection between theory and practice. He said that the evaluation system of the competition should highlight the evaluation of the combination of topic selection, content, and theory, field research, and China's advantages, fully demonstrate students' thinking, and come to practical experience.

He emphasized that case studies should link the abstract theory with the complex reality. It is necessary to focus on the contradiction between theory and reality, tell the story properly, and improve the knowledge and case study results to the audience.

In his speech, he pointed out that the fundamental issue of education lies in building morality and cultivating people. Economics is not only a basic, theoretical discipline, but also a practical discipline closely related to the development of and changes in the national economy and society. It is necessary to build a theoretical system of socialist economy with Chinese characteristics as deeply rooted in the land of China and to serve the development of China. The talents cultivated in economics not only need the ability to solve macro and micro economic problems, but also need to pay close attention to the practical problems concerning China's economic and social development. They should be patriotic and practical. The competition revolved around "China's economic development" and "new development concept". To tell China's story in economy and analyze China's economic development are beneficial to enhance the subjectivity, originality, localization and competitiveness of economics as a discipline. Chen pointed out that Sun Yat-sen University shoulders the historical mission of delivering talents for Chinese-style modernization. We must give priority to serving the country and be guided by the national strategic needs. We must strive to improve the talent training system and the "Plan of China" in economics as a discipline. It is hoped that the students will, with the "Lingnan Cup" competition as an opportunity, take root in the land of China, study Chinese issues, explore Chinese economic theories, pioneer and innovate, work hard, and shoulder the important task of national rejuvenation in the new era.

The awarding ceremony was chaired by Huang Yi, Secretary of the Party Committee of Lingnan College. Foshan Lingnanhai Team stood out from the fierce competition according to the scores given by the judges, and won the first prize in the first "Lingnan Cup" final. The competition helped arouse the patriotism from college students and exercises their academic and professional abilities. It is reported that the 2nd "Lingnan Cup" China Economic Development Case Analysis Competition will be held across the province, so as to build a broad stage for college students in Guangdong Province to promote China's economic development and contribute their force.
