Up above, there is green Yunshan Mountain stretching out immense; Down below, there is vast Zhuhai Sea reaching to the distant horizon and beyond. Located in the hinterland of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao-Greater Bay Area—Guangzhou, Lingnan College of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) is a first-class and internationally renowned economic College in China. The College has always been aligned with the Party and the country, and is in sync with the development of the cause of SYSU. Under the strong leadership of SYSU's Party Committee, the College has achieved leapfrog development in recent years with the joint efforts of generations of teachers and students, as well as the care and support of alumni and various sectors of society. It has multiple core educational indicators ranking among the top of similar departments in China, marking remarkable achievements.
Since the 18th CPC National Congress, the College has carried out in-depth learning and implementation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, adhered to the fundamental task of establishing morality and cultivating talents, and has been oriented toward the main battlefield of the economy and the major needs of the country. With "Talent Cultivation" as the core mission, the College has practiced its traditional educational philosophy of "Cultivating Talents and Serving Society". The College focuses on building a top-notch talent education system in economics with student growth as the center and cultivating students' abilities in learning, thinking, and acting. The College adheres to strengthening the foundation and promoting cross-disciplinary learning and encourages students to enter teams and projects guided by research-oriented learning. It aims to improve students' research and academic abilities and strives to nurture socialism builders and successors with sound moral grounding, intellectual ability, physical vigor, aesthetic sensibility, and work skills.
Taking root in China and based on the great practice of China's economic development, the College is committed to building China's economic knowledge system and continuously promoting economic theoretical innovation. The College develops its disciplines focusing on "Xi Jinping's economic thought and theoretical innovation of economy with Chinese characteristics", with emphasis on the development of the socialist political economy with Chinese characteristics, finance and risk management, theoretical research of open economy, green economy and sustainable development, digital economy and data science, and other fields. Through these disciplines, it actively serves the major strategic needs of the country and the socio-economic development needs of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao-Greater Bay Area. Based on geographic and disciplinary advantages and with the development goal of building an economic discipline with Chinese characteristics, style, and manner, the College strives to contribute to accelerating the development of a discourse system for philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics, telling the story of China's economy well, and making China's economic theory stand out among the world's academic circles.
In the crucial year as the "14th Five Year Plan" starts, the College takes its main responsibility to strengthen party building, reinforce political responsibility, and serve the overall development around the center; devoted to the main business, the College strengthens the construction of economic disciplines and pools strength to develop ideas, theories, and schools of thought; staying true to the original aspiration, the College continues to implement the fundamental task of "establishing morality and cultivating talents" and build a scientific talent training system at a faster pace; committed to talent education, the College upholds the principle of cultivating "great masters" with ideals and beliefs, moral character, solid foundation of knowledge, and benevolence.
At present, Lingnan College has embarked on a new journey. The College will adhere to the comprehensive leadership of the Party, faithfully support the "Two Establishments", continuously enhance the "Four Consciousnesses", firmly adhere to the "Four-sphere Confidences", and achieve the "Two Upholds". Starting from high-level talent cultivation and high-quality teacher team construction and focusing on connotative and high-quality development, the College will adhere to deepening research in the field of economics, seizing opportunities, keeping a foothold in the Greater Bay Area, upholding fundamental principles, and breaking new ground.
