The 4th Lingnan Global Forum—Green Finance and Green Economy Held Successfully

On January 19, in the early hours of Beijing time, Lingnan College hosted the 4th Lingnan Global Forum at the invitation of the Lingnan Foundation in the United States. The forum invited guests from academia and industry around the world to discuss the development model and prospects of green finance and the green economy. The discussion focused on two aspects: green finance regulation and green industry transformation, providing high-quality perspectives for better regulating the development of green finance and guiding the transformation of the green industry.

 

 

As part of the annual meeting of the American Association of Universities and Colleges (AAC&U), the Lingnan Global Forum attracted professors, scholars, and senior executives from universities and companies in the United States and other regions around the world to participate online and exchange views.

This forum is composed of two sessions. The first session is "Green Finance and Regulation". It is chaired by Associate Professor Liu Yanchu, Associate Dean of Lingnan College. Attending guests include Professor Li Shanmin, Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University and Dean of Lingnan College, Dr. Charlie Donovan, Visiting Professor of Finance and Business Economics, University of Washington, Professor Lan Hong, Deputy Director of the Eco-finance Research Center of the Renmin University of China, and Mr. Cai Qingfu, founder of Yuanbo Global Consulting Company and former managing director of BOCI.

During the forum, Dean Li Shanmin shared his thoughts on green finance from the perspectives of improving the standard of the green finance system, strengthening information disclosure, and clarifying property rights. He aimed to guide the development of green finance to better serve the real economy. Professor Charlie Donovan emphasized the mandatory nature and broad applicability of information disclosure. Mr. Cai Qingfu believed that strengthening the management of financial institutions' credentials will become a pressing issue in the future. Professor Lan Hong highlighted the importance of green finance risk management and shared current experiences on how to regulate green finance institutions.

Session 2 was themed "Green Economy and Industrial Development," chaired by Professor Lu Xiaodong, Associate Dean of Lingnan College. The forum was attended by distinguished guests including Professor Alfred Marcus, Edson Spencer Endowed Chair in Strategy and Technological Leadership Carlson School at the University of Minnesota, Ms. Zhao Lili, Vice President of OPPEIN Group, Mr. Yin Xuesu, CEO of ECOER INC, and Mr. Xu Li, Head of Sustainability Lead Government Affairs & Social Impact at Starbucks (China) Company Limited.

Professor Alfred Marcus presented his view that companies should focus on the incentive effect of carbon trading prices when formulating their strategies. Ms. Zhao Lili summarized the difficulties and pain points that companies face during the process of industrial transformation and shared solutions to these issues. Mr. Yin Xuesu discussed the development trends of the environmental protection industry and made his own predictions. Mr. Xu Li shared his experience in strengthening communication between the government and enterprises based on his own management experience.

Establishing a more unified and transparent green finance market cannot be achieved overnight, and achieving the transformation of green industries and creating a green and low-carbon way of life and production is also a long-term endeavor. The 4th Lingnan Global Forum has provided research and experience from both academia and industry for the future development of green finance and green economy. Lingnan College will continue to focus on cutting-edge topics in economics and strive to enhance its international influence.
