Lingnan has four undergraduate majors: Economics, Finance, Management Science and International Business. Students of Economics and Finance graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics degree, and those of the other two majors receive the Bachelor of Arts in Management degree. These four majors share a common goal of cultivating students with capability and integrity, as well as leadership and citizenship.

Each major emphasises specific knowledge and skills. The Economics programme is aimed to equip students with excellent abilities in mathematics and English, to enable them to develop a global perspective with a solid understanding of the Chinese and international economic environment and trends, as well as international industrial business issues. Upon graduation, students should have basic skills in independent research, serving as a foundation for their further studies. At the same time, graduating students are also capable of performing in management and consulting roles.

The Finance programme is aimed to give students a solid knowledge base of economics and finance. It emphasises flexibility in the use of fundamental knowledge and theories of finance, the practical and innovative ways of identifying, analysing, and solving problems, and the importance of communication and critical thinking. The programme integrates macro and micro finance, helping students to have a comprehensive understanding of international finance, financial institutes, financial markets, investments in securities, corporate finance and risk management. • A more balanced approach to general education and specialized education

In general, undergraduate education in China focuses on specialized education. Lingnan embraces liberal arts education and maintains a healthy balance between general education and specialized education.

• An emphasis on values and social responsibility

Lingnan’s motto “Education for Service” is deeply embedded in its undergraduate education. In particular, the course Justice and Social Responsibility is a core course for all undergraduates. The College actively promotes service learning in its undergraduate education. Every year in August, all third-year Lingnan undergraduates go to the deprived regions of Guangdong Province to do research work, with the purpose to gain a deep understanding of contemporary rural life in China. Lingnan’s students also organize many voluntary and charitable activities by themselves.

• An internationalized undergraduate education

Internationalization is highly emphasized in Lingnan’s undergraduate education. Emphasis on English language instruction, English taught courses, highlight of semester-based exchange programmes, and global immersion programmes all serve as good examples of Lingnan’s commitment to the internationalization of its curriculum. The School creates opportunities and internships provides support for students in terms of foreign internship, overseas employment and overseas studies.

• Small Class Teaching and Team Teaching

Lingnan encourages small class teaching, especially for its core and foundation courses.  The key foundation courses for example, Principles of Microeconomics are offered in 5 sections with around 40 to 60 students per section. The maximum size of each class is 90 for Lingnan's undergraduate programme. Lingnan espouses team teaching, especially for foundation courses taught by a group of faculty members. Teaching teams are formed with a senior faculty member assigned as course coordinator. The faculty members collectively decide the course syllabus, assessment methods, paper making, and grading.

• Well-established mechanisms for quality assurance and improvement

In order to continuously improve the quality of its undergraduate education, Lingnan has established comprehensive quality assurance mechanisms in accordance with international accreditation standards. The key practices include grade distribution guidelines, external examiner systems and special examination arrangements.
