Students Handbook
We are pleased to offer you the exchange student handbook as a practical guide for your study and stay in Guangzhou.
Academic Calendar
There are 3 semesters at SYSU: spring term, summer term and fall term. Both spring term and fall term are open to exchange students. Summer term is only one month, 3-week international summer program will be offered.
There are 18 weeks per semester. Courses will be offered from week 1 to week 17, week 18 is the examination week.
Semester dates (exact dates will be a bit different each semester)
Spring term: mid February – late June
Fall term: late August/early Sept. – January

Spring Festival in February
Qingming Festival in April
Worker’s Day May 1-3
Dragon Boat Festival in June
Mid-autumn Festival in September or October
National Holiday Oct 1-7
The exact dates of holidays may subject to changes. The traditional festival holidays (spring festival, qingming festival, dragon boat festival and mid-autumn festival) may be on different days according to Chinese lunar calendar.
Grading System
Attendance, participation in class, assignment, individual presentations, group presentation, final exam, final paper or final presentation will all count to the final score. Please always be in class and submit your assignments, papers in time.

Transcripts
To be more eco-friendly, IRO will only e-mail the eletronic copy of the transcripts to our parner schools. Hard copies could also be sent upon request.
Transcript will be issued within 2 months after semester ends.
For special cases that exchange student needs their final grades earlier towards their graduation or any other academic reasons, please send your selected course list and explanations to IRO. IRO will try to coordinate and try to issue a preliminary grade list if some of the grades are available.
