Registration Steps for Exchange Students

Document Preparation

1. Original acceptance package (Admission letter & JW202 form)

2. Original passport

3. Passport copies: 3 sets (each set should include photo page, visa page and entry page)

4. Passport-sized photo: 8 pieces

 

Registration Steps

Step 1  Upon arrival (looking for apartment and take digital photo)

Step 2  Registration at Local Police Station

Step 3  Registration at Sun Yat-sen University

Step 4  Body Check and digital-photo taking

Step 5  Residence Permit application

Step 6  Updating your residence permit at Local Police Station

 

Registration fee: RMB400/person/semester

 

Health Insurance

According to the regulations by the Ministry of Education, China, international students in China are required to purchase medical insurance in a Chinese insurance company. This compulsory insurance is called Medical Insurance for Accidental Injury, Outpatient and Emergency Medical Insurance, Hospitalization and Medical Insurance, and Death Insurance.

 

The International Students’ Office (ISO), SYSU is responsible for handling the insurance issues and compensation for international students. Insurance fee will be collected during the registration period.

For one semester: RMB400/person

For one academic year: RMB800/person

Visa/Residence Permit

Sun Yat-sen University will issue acceptance packages (Admission letter and JW202 form) to exchange students to apply for their visas. Students should check the nearest China Embassy or Consulate for the latest visa application updates and prepare the visa application documents accordingly.

 

X2 & X1VISA

X2 visa will be granted those students who study in China for no more than 6 months while X1 visa will be granted to those who study in China for more than 6 months. 

Both X1 and X2 visa holders can apply for Residence Permit in Guangzhou within 30 days upon entering China, which allows students to enter or exit China during their exchange period. 

 

Procedures to apply for Residence Permit:

a. Registration at SYSU

b. Registration at local police station 

c. Health Check at Guangdong International Travel Health Center

d. Pre-online visa application at Room 101, ISO office, SYSU

e. Documents: bring all documents provided by ISO office  and local police station:

    -- Online application number (at ISO office)

    -- Admission letter

    -- Confirmation letter from ISO office

    -- Passport

    -- Digital photo for foreigners and receipt

    -- Health Check Report

    -- Stamped Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitor
