Full-time PhD

The Ph.D. Program in Economics at Lingnan College prepares students for research careers in higher education, policy institutions, and international organizations. Through rigorous academic training, students develop the ability to identify meaningful research questions, conduct independent analysis, and produce original academic work. Students are encouraged to ground their research in China's economic and social realities and to address pressing national and regional challenges.

Through initiatives such as the "Fieldwork in Guangdong" project, doctoral candidates team up with faculty members and undergraduates to carry out field investigations across government departments, rural communities, and enterprises, gathering first-hand evidence and to examine economic issues in institutional and local contexts.

The doctoral curriculum is benchmarked against international standards, and is enriched by short, specialized courses delivered by visiting scholars from leading institutions in China and abroad. Lingnan offers dedicated workspace and competitive scholarships for doctoral candidates, as well as financial support for students presenting their work at high-level domestic and international academic conferences. Students may also participate in faculty research groups' lunch meetings for academic discussion.

The College maintains a vibrant academic and research environment, hosting around six seminars each month and more than ten academic conferences annually, enabling students to frequently engage with current research and with scholars working on a range of topics in economics. The Doctoral Dissertation Workshop provides a regular platform for students to discuss their research with faculty and peers, and develop papers for submission to academic journals.
