Academic Group of Insurance and Financial Engineering

The Academic Group of Insurance and Financial Engineering consists of 15 members, including professors and associate professors. All members have Ph.D. degrees and some have studied in or visited prestigious universities such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States and the University of Waterloo in Canada.

The academic group is centered around the fundamental question of what kind of people to cultivate, how to cultivate them, and for whom to cultivate them. With the support of the college's extensive expertise in the field of finance and insurance, and in response to the trends in the development of insurance and financial engineering, the academic group is committed to effectively managing teaching and advancing teaching research. Multiple foundational and core courses related to insurance and financial engineering have been established, including Principles of Insurance, Actuarial Models and Practice, Financial Risk Management, Medical Insurance and Health Economics, Financial Engineering, Digital Finance and Insurance.

The academic group prioritizes addressing real-world issues and conducting genuine research. Specifically, the academic group is committed to exploring topics that align with the following four principles: facing the forefront of global science and technology, addressing challenges in the main economic battlefield, addressing major national needs, and improving the health and well-being of the people. The research fields include insurance actuarial science, financial engineering, risk management, social security, digital finance and insurance, behavioral finance, and so on. Members of the academic group are active in academia and industry, and some of them have a large influence among their peers at home and abroad. They have published papers in Operations Research, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, Insurance: Mathematics and Economics, Economic Research, The Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, Insurance: Mathematics and Economics, Economic Research Journal, Journal of Management World, Journal of Management Sciences in China, and other authoritative journals in this field. Members of the academic group have presided over several major projects of the National Social Science Fund of China, and the research results have been approved by several national leaders. They have also won the second prize in the Award for Outstanding Achievements in Scientific Research (Humanities and Social Sciences) of Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education and other awards.

The platforms that the Academic Group of Insurance and Financial Engineering can rely on include the Key Research Bases for Humanities and Social Sciences in Guangdong Provinces, Sun Yat-sen, Center for Financial Engineering and Risk Management, the Social Security Research Center of Sun Yat-sen University, and AIA Actuarial Center of Sun Yat-sen University. We are actively leveraging our research platform to organize team-based activities such as project applications, academic forums, and workshops, in order to strengthen our team's cohesion.
