Corporate finance is a core component of the finance discipline at Sun Yat-sen University. The Academic Group of Corporate Finance at Lingnan College is guided by Xi Jinping's thoughts on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, and is fully committed to implementing the Party's new education policy. It places a strong emphasis on cultivating virtue and fostering talent, and works towards Sun Yat-sen University's goal of developing talents who have both skills and integrity, possess leadership qualities, and have a sense of patriotism. Its activities revolve around corporate finance and course development, with the aim of continuously improving teaching quality, the level of talent development, and academic research capabilities. Its work is driven by a dedication to deepening teaching research and education reform while developing the discipline of finance.

There are 13 teachers in the Academic Group of Corporate Finance: Luo Danglun, Liu Jianhua, Zhou Kaiguo, Cai Rongxin, Zhang Hongbin, Dai Yun, Deng Jiapin, Lu Di, Ma Xiaotian, Zhang Xiaoyu, Zhu Xiaoyu, Xuan Yuhao and Liu Yu.

There are 3 professors, 3 associate professors, 6 assistant professors, and 1 postdoctoral fellow.

Most of the faculty members have experience studying or conducting research abroad, including MIT, Stanford University, University of Minnesota, City University of New York, University of Connecticut, Lancaster University in the UK, National University of Singapore, Australian National University, University of Auckland in New Zealand, Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands, Goethe University Frankfurt in Germany, etc.

In the past five years, teachers for finance have undertaken more than 40 projects, including major projects of the National Social Science Fund of China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Social Science Foundation of China, provincial and ministerial projects, and have published more than 60 academic papers in important journals at home and abroad, such as Economic Research Journal, Journal of Management World, China Economic Quarterly, Journal of Management Sciences in China, The Journal of World Economy, Journal of Financial Research, Accounting Research, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Corporate FinanceJournal of Banking and Finance,  Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, The European Journal of Finance, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, etc.

The academic group has strong faculty force, with five doctoral supervisors and fruitful research achievements.

Luo Danglun, Professor,a doctoral supervisor, mainly focuses on government governance, capital markets, and corporate governance. Over the past five years, he has published 15 papers in SSCI journals such as the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Accounting&Finance, China Economic Review, Social Science Quarterly, and Regional Science and Urban Economics. He has published more than 40 papers in authoritative academic journals in China such as Economic Research Journal, Journal of Management World, China Economic Quarterly, Accounting Research, etc.

In 2017, he received the second prize in the Outstanding Achievement Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences in Guangdong Province; In 2018, he won the first prize for an excellent paper at the Annual Conference of the Financial Society of Guangdong; In 2018, he was awarded the title of "Leading Accountant" by the Ministry of Finance. He has been selected for the leading scientific research talent cultivation project at Sun Yat-sen University. He is an independent director of Bio Kangtai (300601), GuangZhou JinYi Media Corporation (002905), Fujian Green Pine (300132), Qitian Technology (300061), Yuekai Securities, Guangdong Kaiping Rural Commercial Bank, Guangzhou Development Zone Industrial Fund Group and other companies. He has founded the Xinsanban Think Tank and has a good influence in the field of multi-level capital market research.

Zhou Kaiguo, Professor, is a doctoral supervisor, the chief expert on the major projects of the National Social Science Fund of China, the chief expert on the key projects of the Ministry of Education, a council member of the China International Finance Society, a special editor of the Securities Market Herald, and a science and technology consultant expert in Guangdong Province.

In 2018, he was awarded the title of "Outstanding Teacher in South Guangdong" in Guangdong Province. In 2021, he won the first prize in the thesis category of the 9th Outstanding Achievement Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences in Guangdong Province. He received the Best Paper Award at the 31st Asian Finance Association Annual Meeting in 2019. He obtained the third prize at the 18th Annual Conference of the China Society for Finance & Banking in 2021. In 2021, he won the third prize for Best Paper at the Annual Meeting of the Global Chinese Accounting Association Inc. In 2018, he was awarded the second prize in the Excellent Financial Research Achievement Paper category of the 10th Financial Society of Guangdong.

Liu Jianhua, Associate Professor, a doctoral supervisor, assistant to the Dean of Lingnan College, Sun Yat-sen University, director of the professional master's program at Lingnan College, deputy director of the Accounting and Capital Operations Research Center, and national leading accounting talent (academic) from the Ministry of Finance. He was the Deputy Director of Finance and Accounting Division of Sun Yat-sen University on a part-time basis. He is mainly engaged in research and teaching related to the financial and accounting practices of listed companies, investor protection and capital market regulation, and corporate governance. He has published multiple papers and two works in important journals such as the Journal of Management World, Economic Research Journal, Journal of Management Sciences in China, Journal of Financial Research, and Accounting Research. He has led projects including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Humanities and Social Sciences Fund of the Ministry of Education, the Special Postdoctoral Funding Program of China, the General Postdoctoral Funding Program of China, and the Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province. He has received the Excellent Research Achievement Award from the Ministry of Education once, the Outstanding Achievement Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences in Guangdong Province twice, and the Outstanding Teaching Contribution Award from Lingnan College once.

Dai Yun, Associate Professor, received her Ph.D. in Finance from Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands in 2014. Before joining Lingnan College, she taught at the University of Groningen and Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Her main research interests are corporate finance, Chinese debt problems, and experimental and behavioral finance. Her research projects involve mergers and acquisitions, corporate IPOs, salary management, innovation and entrepreneurship, and zombie enterprises. Some of her research results have been published in domestic and international journals, including Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Games and Economic Behavior, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Journal of Economic Dynamics & Control, Economic Research Journal, Journal of Management World, Journal of Management Sciences in China, etc.

II. Research Areas and Characteristics of Corporate Finance Teaching

The main research areas of corporate finance include: corporate finance, capital markets and corporate financial behavior, financial institution management and regulation, and mergers and acquisitions. Simultaneously, we leverage the unique characteristics of Corporate Finance to offer policy recommendations, consulting services, training, and other assistance to local governments at all levels, various types of enterprises, as well as banking, securities, insurance, corporate finance, and other departments. This has earned us a favorable reputation. In 2006, Finance at Sun Yat-sen University was selected as a key discipline in Guangdong Province.

Corporate Finance focuses on striking a balance between localization and global standards. It bases itself on China's economic development and the evolving landscape of corporate finance. At the same time, it keeps pace with the latest international trends and best practices. To this end, we offer some undergraduate courses in English and attach great importance to academic exchanges with both domestic and international scholars and prestigious universities.

A number of outstanding graduates from Finance have worked for internationally renowned institutions, including the World Bank, MIT Sloan School of Management, Merrill Lynch, Moody's, CICC, etc.

IV. Planning and Implementation of Scientific Research Tasks

This academic group, based on the strengths of the discipline of corporate finance and in line with the development needs of the college and individual teachers, organizes members to conduct high-quality scientific research. In particular, it encourages members to apply for various research projects, especially to actively plan and seek national major and key projects. It has created an environment that fosters collaboration and promotes the writing of high-quality academic papers. It works hard to cultivate projects and strive for research awards at various levels.

It also assists the college in organizing academic exchange activities related to finance. It can host or initiate such events. Through various forms of academic activities such as forums, salons, and workshops, it focuses on cutting-edge research and promotes communication, creating more opportunities for high-level scientific research cooperation, and enhancing the academic influence of the economics discipline of Sun Yat-sen University, thereby improving the academic reputation of the college.

V. Talent Cultivation

The fundamental task is to cultivate people with integrity and morality. We adhere to educating people for the Party and nurturing talent for the country. We firmly grasp the key to talent development and strive to cultivate socialist builders and successors who have comprehensive development in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor skills, and can shoulder the great responsibility of national rejuvenation in the new era.

On one hand, the academic group integrates the concept of moral education into all aspects of talent cultivation and designs talent cultivation goals, curriculum content, and teaching plans around moral education. On the other hand, it focuses on the practice of China's socialist development in a new era, allowing students to understand the role of corporate finance in economic development and China's socialist development in a new era. It aims to improve students' hands-on ability and research level.

It actively organizes extracurricular activities with a focus on corporate finance, guides academic exchanges between undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students, and explores innovative talent training models. It also guides and coordinates the inclusion of undergraduate students into the research team of mentors in corporate finance.
