Target
The Academic Group of Macroeconomy is guided by Xi Jinping's Thoughts on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and fully implements the Party's new educational policy. Its fundamental task is to cultivate individuals with strong moral character, and it focuses on Sun Yat-sen University's goal of developing talents who have both skills and integrity, possess leadership qualities, and have a sense of patriotism. The academic group strives to continuously enhance the quality of teaching, talent development, and academic research ability while promoting the development of macroeconomics.
Missions and Plans
The academic group is committed to fulfilling the teaching tasks outlined in the curriculum plan, managing teaching affairs effectively, and promoting teaching research. It maximizes the potential of its research platform by organizing teams to apply for research projects and develop platforms to advance macroeconomic research. It strives to achieve significant results in its research endeavors. In undergraduate and graduate teaching, the academic group ensures the completion of teaching tasks specified in the curriculum and organizes teachers to collaborate on lesson preparation while conducting teaching research activities. It regularly hosts academic seminars for graduate and doctoral students to improve the quality of their thesis writing. The academic group actively applies for national-level scientific research projects and fosters academic exchange activities such as subject forums and workshops to promote scientific research and discipline development. It also holds regular teaching and research exchange meetings to strengthen team cohesion and assists the college in recruiting high-level talents.
Features
The academic group prioritizes moral integrity in talent cultivation, guiding students to effectively tell China's macroeconomic story and bolster their confidence in the path, theory, system and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Additionally, it encourages the practical application of macroeconomic theory tools in the analysis of real-world issues, emphasizing the importance of hands-on learning. The academic group employs standard and innovative economic theories and empirical methods in its academic research, focusing on significant issues in China's macroeconomic growth, fluctuations, and transformation. It strives to continuously improve theoretical innovation and practical applicability in its research.
Talent Cultivation
The academic group adheres to the principle of cultivating virtue and talent, highlighting Chinese characteristics. On one hand, the academic group integrates the concept of moral education into all aspects of talent cultivation and designs talent cultivation goals, curriculum content, and teaching plans around moral education. On the other hand, it focuses on China's economic development. It aims to enable students to master macroeconomic theories that help them understand China's macroeconomic development and transformation and improve their practical skills and research capabilities to analyze real-world economic issues.

Its faculty team has strong scientific research abilities and has produced fruitful achievements in recent years. From 2016 to 2021, the team has published nearly 200 papers in Chinese and English academic journals, including 29 papers in Chinese A-level journals, 2 papers in English A-level journals, and 13 papers in B-level and above journals. In 2021, two projects of the team were included in the National Natural Science Foundation of China, among which Prof. Wang Xi's project Theory and Evaluation of Structural Monetary Policy received funding as a key project.

Quality Courses
The Intermediate Macroeconomics taught by the faculty of Academic Group of Macroeconomy was selected as a university-level quality course, a quality course in Guangdong Province and an international-level quality course in 2007, 2009 and 2010, respectively.
Serving the Society
The faculty members of Academic Group of Macroeconomy have dedicated themselves to providing intellectual support for the economic and social development of the country, by offering advice and strategies, and have received recognition from government departments at various levels. In 2019, the Office of the Comprehensive Deepening Reform Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China sent a letter expressing gratitude for the research conducted by Professor Xu Xianxiang's team. Professor Xu Xianxiang's team report also received instructions from Ma Xingrui, the then-governor of Guangdong Province, and other leaders. Professor Lin Jiang has been committed to providing research and consulting services to governments and enterprises for a long time. He has been hired as a consultant and special researcher by multiple local governments and was appointed as an expert for the Guangdong Economic Situation Report Team in 2018.
Awards
In the past three years, the faculty members of Academic Group of Macroeconomy have been awarded multiple prizes for their research achievements. The paper Administrative Approval Reform and Enterprise Entry by Xu Xianxiang, Bi Qingmiao, Chen Xilu, and other teachers won the second prize in the 9th Outstanding Achievement Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences in Guangdong Province. The paper Housing Price-to-Income Ratio and Household Consumption—From the Perspective of the Wealth Effect of Real Estate by He Xingqiang won the third prize in the 9th Outstanding Achievement Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences in Guangdong Province. In 2019, Wang Xi was awarded the Second Prize in the 8th Outstanding Achievement Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences in Guangdong Province for the paper Monetary Policy Expectations and Inflation Management—DSGE Analysis Based on News Shocks. The paper co-authored by Professor He Xingqiang, The Implications of Foreign "Carbon Peak" and "Carbon Neutrality" Development Strategies for Low-Carbon Development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, was honored as an outstanding paper at the 2021 Academic Annual Meeting of Social Sciences in Guangdong Province. In 2020 and 2021, the projects presided over by Long Zhaohui won the second prize for financial research projects of the Institute of Financial Sciences in Guangdong Province, respectively.
