The 2nd Oxford-China/L(U)C Symposium on Global Strategic Leadership
From January 21st to January 29th, sophomores from Lingnan (University) College paid a visit to Oxford University to participate in the “Symposium on Global Strategic Leadership 2018.”
As one of the major international programs of Lingnan (University) College, the Symposium on Global Strategic Leadership aims to broaden students’ global horizons and cultivate their cross-cultural communication skills, critical thinking, and sense of social responsibility. The students worked together, discussing global issues like population levels, environmental pollution, and business ethics. Additionally, students analyzed and gave presentations on certain enterprises. During winter vacation each year, a few sophomores from Lingnan are selected for a one-week visit to England, about which they present a report on their project later on. Early in the next semester, students from Oxford set off for China to share their ideas with our students. This year, the theme of this exchange is“Social Entrepreneurship.”

Funded by the Huang Hua International Communication Fund, the 2nd Oxford-China/L(U)C Symposium on Global Strategic Leadership begins during winter vacation with the participation of 9 undergraduate students. Led by Lingnan’s Associate Dean, Professor Zhang Bin, Lingnan students presented their analysis of some companies together with students from Oxford and attended lectures delivered by both schools’ professors. Furthermore, students from Lingnan visited Cambridge University, Standard Chartered Bank, Uber, BMW, and other famous places of interest.

As a different way of showing“social entrepreneurship,”company visits provided students with a deeper understanding of social responsibility. By communicating with outstanding people, students acquired valuable practical experience which cannot be of experiences which gained from books.

In March 2018, as part of the Oxford-China/L(U)C Symposium on Global Strategic Leadership, Oxford students will come to Guangzhou and take part in exchange activities at Lingnan. The Symposiums demonstrate Lingnan’s exploration into educational internationalization and cross-culture exchanges. In the near future, the two programs will develop continuously with the goal of providing students with more opportunities for self-advancement.
