The 7th Yale-China/L(U)C Symposium on Global Strategic Leadership
From January 21st to January 30th, sophomores from Lingnan (University) College paid a visit to Yale University to participate in the “Symposium on Global Strategic Leadership 2018”.
As one of the major international programs offered by Lingnan (University) College, the Symposium on Global Strategic Leadership aims to broaden students’ global horizons and cultivate their cross-cultural communication skills, critical thinking and sense of social responsibility. The students worked together, discussing global issues like population, environmental pollution, and business ethics, as well as analyzing and giving presentations on social enterprise. The symposium is a yearly tradition in which a few sophomores from Lingnan are selected to pay a one-week visit to the U.S during winter break and their Yale counterparts set off for China during the spring to conclude the exchange with Chinese culture and culminating competition. This year, the theme is “Social Entrepreneurship”.

Lingnan and Yale Students
Launched in 2012, the Yale-China/L(U)C Symposium on Global Strategic Leadership has been funded by the Yale-China Association and the Lingnan Foundation. Since 2014, this project has gained extra support from the Huang Hua International Communication Fund. This year 18 undergraduate Lingnan students were led by Prof. Chen Gang and Ms. Liang Geng as they worked together with Yale students to present their analysis of several companies and listened to speeches delivered by professors from Yale on the theme of social entrepreneurship. Beyond exploring Yale University, students toured New York City where they visited UN head quarters, Columbia University, Google, HSBC and some famous tourist attractions including Wall Street and Central Park.

Lingnan alunmi give students a tour of Google
Lingnan alunmi at Google were excited to give current Lingnan students insight into their company’s development of search engine technology. On a more personal note the Lingnan alumni also shared their job-hunting experiences and gave some suggestions on career planning, which benefited students greatly.

Students at HSBC
Lingnan students also visited HSBC head quarters in New York, where they listened to HSBC executives’ words of wisdom regarding globalization, enterprise, social responsibility, and HSBC’s business model. These company visits gave students an opportunity to learn more about social responsibility and how it operates beyond academic inquiry to influence the real business world.

at Columbia University
In March 2018, as a part of the Yale-China/L(U)C Symposium on Global Strategic Leadership, Yale students will come to Guangzhou and take part in exchange activities at Lingnan. The Symposiums demonstrate Lingnan’s exploration into educational internationalization and cross-culture exchanges. In the near future, the two programs will develop continuously in the goal of providing students with more opportunities for self-advancement and career development.
