About CDC
Career Development Centre (CDC). CDC is responsible for students’ career development, which includes the organisation of job fairs, networking with local companies to increase internship opportunities for students, and inviting senior managers to provide students with career talks for the purpose of industry familiarisation and experience sharing. As the numbers of students applying for postgraduate study has grown in recent years, CDC also organises seminars and consultations for those who intend to continue their tertiary education. Open discussions and advice are also provided for students who wish to study abroad.
Lingnan’s CDC has a professional team taking care of students' careers and personal development. The CDC provides support services such as career counselling, professional development workshops, industry information-sharing, and mock interview workshops.
The main activities include:
- Providing one-on-one career counselling that is integrated into all programmes. Through this counselling, the Centre assists students in defining and planning their long-term career goals. The Centre uses a Baixiang career test and a Career Assessment tool to help students build their self-awareness, to discover their career interests, and their values and skills, which helps student to identify their strengths and possible career options.
- Providing a compulsory two-credit course career-development course for all third-year undergraduate students in different programmes. MBA and Master’s students also have a career development course, but receive no credits for theirs
- The CDC also organises an intensive two/three day training camp for students who are interested in having a career in investment banking and management consultancy. Alumni and retired senior executives are invited to give lectures at this camp.
- Bringing together senior corporate executives and successful Lingnan alumni to give talks on career development. During Career Exploration Season, Lingnan invites more than 10 speakers, mainly from finance and consulting industries, to share their practical experiences with students.
- Publicising placement and internship opportunities to junior and senior students respectively. Lingnan uses the ‘Simplicity’ career-management system to post recruitment information, such job postings, company presentations and job fairs. The CDC centre also posts announcements, workshop information and shares many materials with students via ‘Simplicity’.
- Organising company information sessions, company presentations and job fairs for both internship and employment. In the academic year of 2019, over 300 posts and over 80 internship opportunities were released; 30 company information sessions were held; and 3 job fairs with 110 companies were arranged.
- Assisting students in writing curriculum vitae or resumes, collecting and analysing graduate data and releasing an annual career report.
