Shanhai Forum is an academic forum founded and managed by Kaohsiung Sun Yat-sen University, Xiamen University, and Sun Yat-sen University. It is the participation and commitment of these three universities that make the forum so successful. In fact, there have already been 6 forums since the first meeting organized by Sun Yat-sen University in December 2011. Sun Yat-sen University itself has hosted two forums: the 3rd forum on November 2013, and the most recent forum in November of this year.

Shanhai Forum aims to actively promote the academic communication between Sun Yat-sen universities and Xiamen University, to broaden the opportunity of future cooperation between academic institutions, and to advance the efficiency and academic development of these three great universities. In order to achieve these goals, each university commits itself to inviting the top scholars in their field to come attend and participate in the conferences, as well as to developing academic paper publications and exchanges. With these actions, the Shanhai Forum is determined to establish a steady and efficient channel for long-term academic cooperation.

The 6th Shanhai Forum was held at Sun Yat-sen University and coincided with the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sun Yat-sen.
