摘要:
      We examine whether and how external entry threats affect incumbents’ timing of pipeline product launches. Using Paragraph IV filings as generic-entry threats in the pharmaceutical industry, we find that challenged firms increase launches in the same therapeutic category, particularly novel drugs, shortly after a challenge. We strengthen the causal interpretation of these findings by exploiting an FDA regulation governing the earliest date when a Paragraph IV filing may occur. Entry threats reduce the expected sales of existing products, alleviating internal cannibalization concerns and accelerating the commercialization of previously approved pipeline products. Consistent with this mechanism, these launches erode challenged-product sales before generic entry occurs.
报告人介绍：

       马芳原，现任北京大学汇丰商学院金融学专业助理教授，2018年毕业于香港科技大学获金融学博士学位。研究领域包括公司金融、公司治理、市场竞争和并购重组。学术论文发表于Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis 和 Journal of Financial Economics，目前教授公司金融和公司治理等金融专业课程。
