摘要：
     This talk walks through a series of ongoing works that seek to assess the economic impacts of China's regional carbon market pilots on firm emissions, innovation, and economic fundamentals. Leveraging the regional ETS pilots as a quasi-natural experiment as well as a rich set of firm-level datasets such as publicly available firms, tax survey, and patents, we employ causal inference tools to identify the economic, innovation, and environmental impacts of China's ETS on firms. Our results show that China's ETS reduces carbon emissions despite low carbon prices and infrequent trading. We find no evidence that ETS negatively affects firm profitability and productivity. We explain that the ETS directs firm innovation towards climate-friendly technologies, reducing regulatory compliance costs. Furthermore, we demonstrate unambiguous evidence that China's regional segmented ETS can cause carbon leakage among firms in the same ownership network and diffuse climate innovation within the network as well.

       崔静波，昆山杜克大学社会科学部应用经济学长聘副教授，环境研究中心联席主任，环境政策硕士项目（iMEP）主任。研究方向：环境经济学、气候变化经济学、专利创新。近期研究方向围绕低碳技术创新的演进路径，气候风险的识别与量化，碳市场的经济与环境效应。研究成果发表在经济学国内顶级期刊《经济研究》《管理世界》，国际权威期刊American Economic Review Papers and Proceedings, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management、Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS)和Current Biology (Cell子刊)。研究成果被Nature Climate Change亮点报告。担任Environment and Development Economics 副主编，JAERE和JEEM编委（Editorial Council）。关于中国区域碳市场、清洁发展机制、企业低碳技术创新的相关研究成果与观点被Financial Times, Nature News in Focus, BBC Worklife，South China Morning Post等媒体平台采访、转载并报道，并受邀参加上海TEDX公开演讲。
