Since the global financial crisis, Asia’s hedge fund industry has been facing headwinds with some funds experiencing massive redemptions and even closures. As the industry consolidates, fund managers are shifting investment strategies and finding a new investor base. Paul Smith, CFA, Managing Director, Asia Pacific of CFA Institute will discuss the evolution of Asia’s hedge fund industry and current trends, drawing on his more than 25 years of experience in the investment management industry. He will also discuss distressed asset and special situations investing.

 

From 1996 to 2006, Mr. Smith was global head of alternative funds administration for HSBC (previously Bank of Bermuda), where he was responsible for the delivery of services to 2,000 investment funds (over US$250 billion of assets). Prior to joining CFA Institute in 2012, he was chairman and CEO of Asia Alternative Asset Partners.

 

演讲嘉宾简介:

Paul Smith heads the Asia-Pacific operations of CFA Institute, the global association of investment professionals that leads the industry by promoting the highest standard of ethics, education, and professional excellence for the ultimate benefit of society.

 

He has more than 25 years of relevant financial services leadership experience in many aspects of the investment management industry. He has lived and worked in Hong Kong for more than 14 years and is dedicated to the Asia-Pacific market.

 

Mr. Smith previously worked for HSBC and the Bank of Bermuda, both institutions with global operations. In addition, he has pursued entrepreneurial roles, most recently running his own firm – Asia Alternative Asset Partners. He has managed global teams as large as 1,500 staff in 13 locations.

 

Mr. Smith also volunteers as a council member and former board member of the Alternative Investment Management Association, a membership organization that promotes the industry’s global development.

 

He holds a master of arts degree in modern history from Oxford University. He is a chartered accountant and a CFA charterholder.
