Lecture Abstract:

In the last decade, technology vendors of the data and analytics industry developed ten of thousands of tools to help enterprise to grow their capability in data and analytics. Recent years, with the raise of machine learning, big data and artificial intelligence, billions of investment getting into the pool. However, Gartner research showed that majority of the organisations have low BI and analytics maturity. That means, apart from the technology company, most of the enterprises are not getting the value out of the analytics.

In this session, we will put a business lens on analytics (as well as advanced analytics). To understand how the enterprises can get value from analytics. Then we will review some fundamental concepts of analytics, alongside with the practical project delivery examples to gain deeper understanding of the common challenges and to seek resolution to overcome them.

Guest Introduction:

Genie has a range of experience as an executive for both product and services organisation. His primary focus is on delivery. With wide ranges of specialties in Business Intelligence, Data Warehouse and Big Data area (15+ years), He was able to successfully execute and deliver the benefits of the AI and data technology by applying result oriented approach, effective stakeholder management, and fit-for-purpose project delivery methodology (Agile and Lean). 

Genie led a number of big data and advanced analytics projects in the region. This included solution consulting, end to end project delivery and program advisory roles for Telkomsel, OVO, Standard Charter Bank, Cathay Pacific Airline, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Insurance Australian Group, Credit Suisse, United Oversea Bank, Petronas, Tenaga National, Westpac Bank and many more.

During his time at Deloitte, as a data solution leader of South East Asia, Genie brought up the Data 2.0 framework. This framework redefines the data solution delivery methodology by using the latest technology stacks. It shortens the delivery timeframe and accelerates the benefits realisation for the enterprise data and analytics projects.

Remarks:

Series Lectures on International Management is a 1-credit compulsory course for 19FI class and optional course for other classes. There will be 10 lectures which will be held in Chinese and English through Academic Year 2019 periodically. 19FI class students should attend at least 4 English lectures while other students could attend for both Chinese and English lectures to get the credit. Students should sign in and sign out with attendance machine for each lectures. After attending 4 lectures, please send an email to Poppy Guo at guojzhen3@mail.sysu.edu.cn to apply for the credit.
