Beautiful Lingnan –Give Every Child a Small Dream

"Beautiful Lingnan" is a public-welfare project initiated by Lingnan (University) College, in an effort to solve the problem of education inequality in rural parts of southern China. The Project consists of four parts: "ONE", "TEN", "HUNDRED" and "THOUSAND".

ONE involves going to the rural parts one time. Every summer, Lingnan organizes a trip for rising third-year undergratuate students to travel to villages to be exposed to and investigate rural life.

TEN stands for ten book clubs. Each year, Lingnan founds ten book clubs in rural middle schools.

HUNDRED means that one hundred students will participate in a free summer camp each year. These students will be invited from 20 schools in the villages.

THOUSAND stands for a thousand alumni offering help to a thousand children. Lingnan organizes a thousand alumni to pair with a thousand children from deprived families. The Lingnan alumni will provide mentorship for the students in their study and life.

On Dec. 7th, the two book clubs founded with the help of the “Beautiful Lingnan” project were inagurated in Shaoguan Lechang Jiufeng Primary School and Meihua Town Daping Primary School. On a cold morning at 6:30 am, leadership members from Lingnan, MBA alumni representative and othe staff headed to Jiufeng Primary School. After a two hours’ drive along the bumpy and twisty road, they finally arrived at Jiufeng Primary School. The children were just taking their morning exercises. Seeing the smiling innocent faces of the children, they all felt the tough jouney had been worth it. 

A message from Xu Xinzhong: “Beautiful Lingnan” Interprets “Education for Service”.
In August 2015, Professor Xu Xinzhong proposed the “Beautiful Lingnan” project at the Lingnan Alumni Convention. Lingnan alumni responded to the call swiftly, and donated over 200,000 RMB, which will be used to build two Book Clubs and buy chairs and desks. Every book club holds about 3000 books.

The donors are Lingnan MBA students, who have a great sense of social responsibility and intiate actions with great efficiency. When “Beautiful Lingnan” was proposed, they answered the call swifty and raised funds with trenmendous effort. By the end of August, during the Orientation for MBA students, the Organzing Committee of 2014 and the newly-enrolled students of 2015 raised more than 200,000 RMB, which will be used to build two Book Clubs.
