  • 主题:The Bubbles: what history had told us, why is it still relevant today, who is responsible, where are we now, and how to avoid the next crash?

  • 摘要: My talk aims to outline three historical events that underpin the literature of modern financial bubbles and crashes, namely the Mississippi bubble, the Japanese bubble, and the 2007 GFC. I would like to take this opportunity to critically review current literature that strives to understand the mechanism underneath, as well as to brainstorm some ideas that I plan to work on in my next project regarding modelling and empirically verifying systemic financial risk in the context of Chinese economy, in this informal, semi-academic all-in-one talk. There are two books of my main reference: (1) Princes of the Yen by Richard Werner, the UK-based German economist who once coined the term “quantitative easing”, and (2) Inside Job by Charles Ferguson, who directed the documentary under the same title that had won Oscar prize for best documentary in 2011.
